Registration 2008

Online Registration for the 2008-2009 School Year for Returning Students

During the week of May 12, parents of students currently enrolled in grades K through 7 were sent an email message with instructions on how to register with user names and passwords for each student in their family. Please check your email. This year, registration will be done using the PowerSchool parent portal. If you know all your students' PowerSchool logins, you may register now. If you have lost your user names and passwords, please send an email to registration@kentfieldschools.org.

Proof of residency (as explained below for new students) will be required of parents of all students (new, transfer and returning students) in August. If you are filling out the online registration forms this spring, you do not need to provide documentation of residency now, but you will need to collect and submit residency proofs in August.

Registration for New and Transfer Students

To open a new regstration, the student's parent will need to come to the Bacich or Kent Office (preferably after 9:00 AM, because office staff are usually busy with absences and tardies from 8:15 to 9:00) with the proper documentation. During the summer, the school offices will operate with reduced hours, so please call for hours or operation. When the school offices are closed for vacation (usually for the month of July), you may apply at the District Office.

We recommend you contact the school office by phone before coming in, so that office staff can discuss the details with you. The contact phone nubmers are:

  • Bacich Elementary School (entering Grades K through 4)
Please call Sarah Fletcher at (415) 925-2220
  • Kent Middle School (entering Grades 5 through 8)
Please call Susan Merrill at (415) 458-5974
  • District Office (only when schools are closed for vacation)
Please call Sylvia Pesenti at (415) 458-5130

When you come to the office, you will need to bring these documents with you:

  1. A copy of student's birth certificate
  2. The student's immunization record, filled out and signed by the student's physician
  3. Documentation of your residency within the District boundaries. This consists of a valid photo ID for the parent and two additional, different proofs of residence. You can provide two "primary proofs" or one primary and one "secondary proof", as approved by California State Law and the District, and as detailed in sections 3b. and 3c. below. All proofs of residency must be no older than two months at the time of submission and must be actual bills. Utility set-up and 15-day notice letters are not acceptable.

3a. Driver's License or Other Photo ID

  • Valid personal identification with picture. A current valid California driver's license is preferrred, or if driver's license is not available, some form of photo identification.

3b. Primary Proofs

  • Page 3 of your current PG&E bill.
  • Pages 1-4 of your telephone bill with the home telephone number indicated. The bill must indicate your street address and actual phone calls made from the residence in order to be acceptable. Cell phone bills are not acceptable.
  • A current, dated lease agreement showing the address with the lessor-lessee-realtor names and signatures. Lease extensions, handwritten or month-to-month leases and grant deeds are not acceptable.

3c. Secondary Proofs

  • A copy of your most current water bill.
  • A copy of your most current garbage bill.
  • A copy of your most current cable/satellite TV bill.

If you don't have all the required documents, please call the appropriate school office to discuss your registration.

After presenting valid residency documentation, you will asked to sign a Proof of Residency Affidavit. Office staff will make copies of the residency, birth, and immunization documents for our files, and ask you for basic information, to open the registration file:

  1. Student's Full Legal Name (Last, First, Middle), Gender and Date of Birth
  2. Name(s) of any siblings (Last, First) who are either currently enrolled, were previously enrolled, or will be enrolling at the same time
  3. Mother's Full Name (Last, First)
  4. Father's Full Name (Last, First)
  5. Home Address (must be in District boundary)
  6. Home Phone, with area code
  7. Guardian's Email Address (where registration login information will be mailed)
  8. Entering Grade Level

Office staff will enter this data into our database system and will create a registration record for your student(s). After the data has been entered, we will print and/or email you the login information so that you can fill out the other registration data at your earliest convenience. Placement tests and interviews with teachers may be arranged at this time.

New Progress Reports

New Progress Reports at Bacich

by Sally Peck, Bacich Principal

In the fall of 2006, the Bacich staff began the arduous and important process of examining our progress reports/report cards. It was believed that they did not adequately represent the grade level standards nor additional important information that we wanted to share with our parents.

Many months of careful thought and research have gone in to developing our new report cards. Unlike previous progress reports, we have aligned our report cards to the corresponding grade level California State Standards. These are available for you to view on the California Department of Education web site. Standards have been an important part of the Kentfield School District curriculum for a number of years. The State of California requires all students to receive instruction in and master the standards at each grade level by the end of the school year.

The new report card is based on a common template, common language, and agreed upon progress standards, which we believe will allow better communication about our students' progress. They will be sent home at three points during the school year: November, March and June. The reports will communicate how well students are progressing toward being proficient in the grade-level standards. This means that a student on track to meet all end of the year standards would demonstrate mastery of identified Fall, Winter and Spring standards when assessed at these three points during the school year.

Throughout the school year, students demonstrate their learning and their progress, as defined by a wide range of student work samples and teacher observation. It is our intention that the contents of the report card is but one of the ongoing conversations between teachers, students and parents about what is expected of the students and how to help them be successful in a rigorous academic program.
