Domain Files

iWeb stores all of your site information in a big file named Domain. It's important to know where this file is located, in case you want to copy it or back it up. This file might be inside your Applications folder, or inside the Application Support folder, or in your Documents folder. You can find out where it is by typing in Domain in the Spotlight search box (at the upper right of your screen).

To launch iWeb properly if the Domain file is any of these locations, double-click the Domain file, and don't launch the iWeb application file directly. If you don't, and your Domain file isn't where iWeb expects it to be, iWeb might start up and create a new empty Domain.

If you move or copy the Domain file to your Documents folder on your laptop, it will be backed up when you sync to the server.

Creating iWeb Content with Other iLife Applications

If you are using GarageBand's Send Podcast to iWeb, or other Send to iWeb functions in iPhoto, iMovie, etc., make sure that iWeb has been opened to your active site first! If you don't, iWeb might start up and create a new empty Domain.

Publishing Your Site to the Web Server

To create or update your live site on our public web server, you use iWeb's Publish to a Folder.... When publishing, make sure that your folder's name is correctly selected in the drop-down menu under Choose a location to store your site., and that the URL for your site that iWeb will use for the RSS feed ends with your folder's name, as in this picture (replace the rsobel with your username):
