09 January 2008 California Healthy KidsCalifornia Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS)The California Healthy Kids survey will take place on February 4th during the school day in homerooms for fifth graders and in science class for seventh graders. Participation in the survey requires parent permission. A letter with a permission slip will be sent home when school resumes after the December vacation. In California, Local Education Agencies (LEAs) and County Offices of Education (COEs) that accept funds under the federal No Child Left Behind Act's Title IV Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities (SDFSC) program or the state Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) program must administer the CHKS at least once every two years. Targeted at grades 5-12, the CHKS enables schools and communities to collect and analyze valuable data regarding local youth health risks, assets, and behaviors. The survey is a powerful tool that can help schools and districts meet all the new assessment requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) for Title IV Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities by accurately identifying areas of strength and weakness. It is designed to be part of a comprehensive data-driven decision making process to help guide the development of more effective health, prevention, and youth development programs at Kent. It consists of a modular survey instrument tied to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Youth Risk Behavior Survey and to WestEd's California Student Survey, together with a full-service survey support system. Separate elementary, middle, and high school versions are currently available. Three regional centers serve all 1,049 California local education agencies, providing comprehensive technical assistance on survey administration and use of results. The CHKS web site can be accessed at A copy of the survey is available to parents for viewing at the Kent Middle School office or the Kentfield School District Office. Alternatively, you may download a copy of the survey modules from the Kent web site. Please choose the appropriate survey for your child. If he or she is in fifth grade, select the elementary version. If he or she is in seventh grade, there are five modules to download, Modules A, B, C, D, and E. 31 August 2007 Annual Report 2007Community Receives Annual Report and Strategic PlanIn August households within the Kentfield School District were mailed a copy of our school district’s 2007 Annual Report and three-year Strategic Plan. The majority of residents received the mailing the week of August 20. The Annual Report highlights the accomplishments of the District in 2006-2007, and explains how all dollars are accounted for. The Strategic Plan, enclosed in the mailing, articulates short and longer term goals for our school district; it will set the direction for the District in the coming three years. This is the first year when our school district has undertaken such a comprehensive mailing. With the upcoming parcel tax election in February, school board election in November and the departure of our long term Superintendent, Bob Caine, next June, the Board of Trustees felt that it was an important time to communicate clearly and often with our school community as well as our community at large. If you did not receive a copy of this report, or you have any questions please contact Bob Caine or any member of the Board of Trustees. Related topics
