Student Services Update: April 10, 2020

Given that our school closures have been extended again, our teachers will be evaluating how we can best support students' progress on their goals and provide continuity of learning of the most important grade-level skills. We understand that this is not the ideal learning situation for some of our students. We are continuing to fine-tune how to best support each of our students and their families using the new platforms. Remote services are very individualized based on the grade level and the needs of each student. We ask for your feedback on how we can improve distance learning for your child.

We want to remind you that we are not able to conduct assessments for special education at this time. The assessments used by our school psychologists are not normed or validated to be used under these conditions. The timelines for initial IEP meetings and triennial assessment meetings have been suspended until school is back in regular session. Your student's case manager will be making arrangements with you to remotely conduct all IEP meetings that do not require formal testing. You are invited to attend the Parent Partners meeting on Tuesday, April 14 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. using the Zoom platform.

Parent Partners is a group for parents of students with learning differences. The group meets four times per year with the primary goals of providing parent perspective and feedback to the school district, supporting children with exceptional needs by increasing knowledge and acceptance of learning differences in the community and supporting parents of students with exceptional needs. This meeting will be an opportunity to give us feedback about district special education and intervention programs as well as feedback on distance learning during school closures.

If you are on the Parent Partners email list you have already been sent the link. If you are not on the communication list and would like to attend, please email me at and I will send you the link.

I hope that you and your loved ones are enjoying a restful spring break.
