Kent Falcons News

Kent Principal Grant Althouse

Greetings Kent Community,

Spring showers welcomed Falcons back to Kent this morning as we launched the final stretch of the school year together. Clean skies, a clean campus, and freshly watered landscapes provide a great setting for what promises to be a productive spring of growth for each of our students.

Please join us this Friday, April 15 at 8:45 a.m. for this month’s Kent Principal Coffee where we take a deep dive into the teaching and learning of science at our school. Come to discuss how our students learn Life Science, Physical Science, Earth and Space Science, and Engineering Practices. Our science classrooms are alive with hands-on activities and application of scientific practices, as students learn to ask questions of inquiry, develop models, carry out investigations, analyze and interpret data, and engage in argument from evidence they uncover. The science classroom of 2022 is likely very different from the science classroom of yours and my middle school education, and we welcome you to Kent on Friday to learn more!

We will conclude our Principal Coffee on Friday with a selection of Innovation Convention presentations delivered by some of our 8th grade scientists. The Innovation Convention project is a culmination of a research, investigation, design, engineering, and writing experience where students worked to understand the impact of climate change, and worked to design realistic clean energy solutions to address problems uncovered in their research. These incredible students will show you just how many skills are learned and developed within the walls of our lab classrooms. Please come and join us for a warm cup of coffee and a lively discussion about science and engineering, this Friday from 8:45 to 10 a.m. in the Kent Library. Virtual participation will be available, and Spanish translation will be provided for in-person attendees. I look forward to seeing you on Friday morning at Kent!

With appreciation,

Grant Althouse
