Bacich Bears News

Mary Ann Spitzer

Dear Bacich Community,

More April showers this week! My garden sure is happy but the showers aren’t always as well received here at school. Let’s just cross our fingers that the sun shines during recess and lunch! Due to the ongoing COVID-19 risks, I wanted to remind you that we continue to have students eat outside under sheltered areas when it rains. Then, they play supervised games and enjoy inside activities in their classrooms.

Last Friday, in a Parent Square communication, I shared the Placement Input Form for 2022-23. This is an optional form that allows parents to share any additional information about their child that may help us as we create balanced class lists for the fall. We will be accepting responses until April 25. Please note that we do not accept specific teacher requests.

Bacich Talent Show

We are excited to announce the 3rd Annual Bacich Talent Show is returning to school next Friday, April 29 for the first time LIVE! This year’s Talent Show participants are 3rd and 4th grade students. There will be two back to back morning assembly performances, with grades K-2 attending the first show and grades 3-4 attending the second. The Talent Show will be recorded and posted for the whole community to enjoy on www.bacichtalentshow.com later that evening.

The Maker Faire was a giant success! We cannot thank Maya Farhoud enough for her excellent organization and dedication to bringing Lawrence Hall of Science to Bacich so all students could participate in this engaging event. Additionally, we thank the parent volunteers. During each grade level session we had 10-14 eager parents supporting the stations as students were creating, building, interacting and problem solving. Your presence and support made it safe and enjoyable for all students grades kinder through fourth. At the end of the day, I saw some amazing student-engineered roller coasters going home, and don’t be surprised if your child has a newly inspired interest in stomp rockets or magnatiles!

Here is a short video of first graders participating in the Maker Faire to give you a snapshot of the different stations, thanks to Michael Bessonette.

Enjoy your week!

Bacich Announcements

Bacich Walk and Roll to School Days: April 13, 20, 27 and "May the 4th"

Walk and Roll Jedi Challenge

Bacich is holding a four-week Walk and Roll to school event that started April 13. Students are working to be full J.E.D.I.s (Joyful, Excited, Devoted, Imaginative) as they celebrate saving the earth by walking or rolling to school. When students walk or roll to school the event days there will be a table at the Sir Francis Drake gate with volunteers passing out their J.E.D.I. cards. They will need to get their card stamped four times. If they have four stamps on their J.E.D.I. card, they can turn it in to enter a raffle for a soccer ball or a scooter! Parents, if you would like to volunteer from 7:45-8:15 a.m. on any of the next four Wednesdays to help out with stamping, please email Kristine Duran at kduran@kentfieldschools.org.

Bacich Yearbooks Last Day to Order Approaching!

The yearbook will be back this year with class photos and pictures of all students, not to mention spreads of special events on campus throughout the year! The sales of the book support KSPTA programming in the KSD. Yearbooks will be delivered to students in their classrooms at the end of the school year.

If purchasing a yearbook is a financial burden for your family, please reach out to either Amber Hatfield (ahatfield@kentfieldschools.org) or Ivette Villarreal (ivillarreal@kentfieldschools.org), and the KSPTA will make sure your child has a book.

Kent Tutors Marin: Free virtual tutoring to K–6th graders in all subjects during school, after school, and on weekends. Spanish-speaking tutors are available. Sessions are 30-45 minutes via Zoom.
