Kent Falcons News

Kent Principal Grant Althouse

Greetings Kent Community,

Kent Falcons have been hard at work in Physical Education class learning and practicing a variety of track and field events in preparation for two competitive opportunities coming up this spring. An annual favorite among many Kent students and staff, the track and field unit teaches students the history, fundamentals, and important techniques for a number of standard track and field events during PE class.

Since March, the Kent Gym, MP Room, and Field has transformed into your local track and field training facility, with students sprinting, jumping, jogging, and throwing under the close guidance and supervision of their PE teachers. Teachers have skillfully taught our students three field events (Long Jump, Shot Put, and High Jump) and 5 track events (100M, 200M, 400M, 600M, and 1200M). During these carefully crafted lessons, our experienced PE teaching team teaches the history and fundamental techniques of each event, including famous athletes and strategies for success. Each lesson builds on the last, deepening students’ skills and confidence as their performance grows with practice. Across the school day, campus is buzzing with students talking about their favorite events, comparing times, and anticipating their next opportunity to practice. It is common to see Falcons practicing relays, long jumps, and sprints during recess and lunch, a true sign of student engagement in the track and field PE unit.

The Kent PE department is thrilled to announce that not only will students have this great track and field unit in class, but they will also be able to try out and compete on our track and field team. There are two scheduled meets, the Area 3 Meet between schools in this region of Marin, as well as the County Championship meet for strong performers at the Area 3 meet. At these meets, students will compete against some of the best student athletes in Marin County with opportunities to win trophies, medals, or ribbons as well as breaking a school record and getting their name on the history board. The Area 3 meet is scheduled for Friday April 29 at Redwood High School and the county championship meet is the following Friday, May 6th at College of Marin. Good luck Falcons!

Whether your child enjoys a casual shot put throw, or perhaps is hoping to bring home a record in the 200m for Kent in 2022, I hope that your Falcon has learned from and enjoyed the track and field unit this year.

With appreciation,

Grant Althouse
