Submit works that illuminate hope and well-being during Mental Health Month

Calling All Students!

In honor of May Mental Health Month the Suicide Prevention Collaboration Youth Action Team — in collaboration with Health and Human Services, Cultural Services, and Marin County Office of Education — is hosting an art and film showcase surrounding mental health and suicide prevention. The goal of this event, to be held on May 12, 5-7 p.m., at Marin County Office of Education, is to increase awareness and conversations around mental health and well-being within Marin through sharing youth art and perspective.

Digital artwork submissions are accepted on the website through May 9. To be featured on the website showcase and at the May 12 event, read the guidelines below and submit your art using this form. Art can also be dropped off at specified location — more information available on the submission form.

Alongside the showcase, note that you can also enter your art to the Directing Change Contest for an opportunity to win prizes, express your feelings and inspire others through film and art on a state-wide level.

Art in any form is accepted, including photography, painting, digital art, storytelling, poetry, dance, music, and video. See more video guidelines, including resources to feature.

The Kentfield Greenbrae Historical Society (KGHS) is partnering with Bon Air to celebrate Bon Air's 70th Birthday!

When: Saturday, May 7 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Where: Bon Air Center, Greenbrae

What: A free, family-friendly community event and party to celebrate Bon Air’s 70th year and to highlight our shared heritage and history. We will honor the important work being done by Bon Air, our local schools, organizations and leaders in our community (see full list below).

Planned festivities include: live music from our local schools (Bacich Elementary 4th Grade Choir and Branson's A Capella Singers) and community (Bread & Roses Presents); history presentations; balloon twisting and face-painting; a bocce tournament; a hands-on roses exhibit; vintage cars; Bon Air merchant specials; birthday cupcakes; ice cream and more!

Watch Bon Air's new wall mural unfold, showcasing the past, present and future of Bon Air created in partnership with Marin Open Studios and the Canal Artist Alliance. Community organizations from across Marin will celebrate with hands-on activities along the promenade, local fire trucks and vintage cars dating back to 1952 on display under the oak tree.

Touch Trucks will be an amazing community event and fun opportunity for families to explore big trucks such as fire trucks, a cement truck, a guide dog puppy truck, and many more. All proceeds will benefit The Commons Foundation, which is leading efforts to build a new Larkspur Library. Representatives from The Larkspur Library will be on-site to provide children with their first library card if desired.

Girls' Force is an educational nonprofit which empowers girls through experiential enrichment programs, camps, and events. Girls' Force programs provide girls with Growth Mindset skills to become tenacious and resilient leaders.

Spanish Program On-Campus for the 2022-2023 School Year! Register Before May 31 and You Will Save $100!

Join Viva el Español and learn Spanish through games, songs, stories, and art projects. This full-immersion approach is offered before school every school day and after school 4 times a week, which assists in reinforcing lessons learned. Students will learn vocabulary related to a variety of everyday themes, practice using it within sentences, and master many useful phrases. They will also learn about various traditions of different Spanish-speaking countries. The curriculum for continuing students builds on what they have learned in previous years, expanding to new subject areas and more complex phrases.

Classes will be held from September 12, 2022, to June 02, 2023, following the school calendar

• 1st - 2nd Grade New Students: Monday - Friday 7:20-8 a.m.
• 2nd - 4th Grade Continuing Students: Monday - Friday 7:20 - 8 a.m.

The Corte Madera Library is hosting multiple learning opportunities for middle school students:

On Saturdays, teen tutors from Redwood High school will be available from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. to assist with various subjects in the library's teen section. This is a drop-in service, so first come first served. Masks are requested to mimic school policies due to close proximity. Call the library for more information.

Another Redwood student will be hosting six classes for 5th-12th graders on how to program using Python. Please call the library to register, space will be limited. Chromebooks are available in-branch, or personal laptops can also be used. Classes are cumulative, and will be posted online following the in-person sessions. Dates: 3/12, 3/19, 3/26, 4/16, 4/23, 4/30.
