KSD News

Dear KSD Community,

Today launched Staff Appreciation Week 2022. Throughout the week our KSD faculty will be honored with tokens of appreciation as well as scrumptious snacks and meals to keep folks energized. Thank you KSD Community for honoring our educators and acknowledging the difference they make in the lives of our children.

As we celebrate our educators – I also want to celebrate some of the KSD traditions that have been revived this school year. From the Bacich Maker Fair to Playoffs Games for our Kent Athletes many joyous activities have occurred this year that will offer memories for a lifetime. Below are two recent events we are spotlighting in this month's first May Newsletter. Enjoy!

With appreciation,

Bacich Talent Show

Bacich Live Talent Show!

On Friday, April 29th a number of Bacich 3rd and 4th graders shared their talents during two live Talent Shows. We had comedians, musicians, dancers, singers and more. The event brought joy and excitement to the Bacich School Community as these brave Bacich Bears stood before an audience of 200+ attendees to demonstrate their interests and passion. Special thanks to Amy Wheeler for her coordination, our backstage parent volunteers, staff who did the set up and most of all to the students for their display of talent.

Kent Mathletes

Did you know about Kent Mathletes?

This is an offering available to interested 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students one day a week during zero period where students come together to work on complex math problems that promote critical thinking and problem solving.

On April 19, Mathlete Coaches Denise and Siggy Strack hosted the Kent Mathlete school competition. It was a great event promoting the love of mathematics through intense and complex math problems. Special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Strack for their ongoing support and promotion of this great event for our kids.

Every KSD student is invited to create flags of their family heritage and we will string them to create a beautiful installation which highlights our vibrant and diverse community. Play Bacich-Kent Bingo where students will learn fun facts about our KSD community and important historical figures. Every student completing the game will receive a prize!

We look forward to seeing you all and celebrating the evening together!

Interested in being a KSD Board of Trustee?

On Tuesday, May 17 at 6 p.m., the KSD will host a School Board Trustee orientation at the KSD District Office, 750 College Ave. The event will share more about the role and responsibility of a School Board Member. Every public school district is governed by a board of trustees, commonly known as the school board. School Meals for All

Beginning in the 2022-23 school year the KSD will be required to provide all children access to a nutritious school meal. The purpose of this program is to establish a foundation for a lifetime of healthy behaviors, reduce the risk of chronic diseases, and support cognitive development and academic success. The KSD is in the process of requesting a public bid for proposals for the district's school food program. This new requirement does not bring additional state funding but does provide flexibility to request a donation to access meals. More information to follow.

Universal Transitional Kindergarten

In the fall of 2022 the KSD will provide a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program for KSD students who turn 5 between September 2, 2022 and February 2, 2023. The program will be a new grade level for our students and will operate at our Bacich School site. The KSD will receive one-time start up funds to assist with planning and implementation of this new grade level. The program will expand over the next 4 years increasing attendance while offering our youngest learners an opportunity to be on a comprehensive elementary school site. This new program provides access to a strong preschool foundation for all age-eligible children.
