Bacich Bears News

Mary Ann Spitzer

Dear Bacich Community,

As we wind down this school year, there are many interesting and fun activities that are happening at each grade level. Please review your classroom newsletters as well as the "KSD Dates" section in the weekly newsletter to stay up to date on your child’s grade level activities. Please read on to learn more about items that pertain to our whole school community.

School Site Council (SSC) Vote – We have two candidates for one spot on the SSC for the 2022-2023 school year. Please use this google form to cast your vote by the end of this week. The newest member of the site council will attend our last SSC meeting on June 6. Thank you!

Volunteer Appreciation Tea – It’s this Friday! We are so excited to be able to honor and thank all of our Bacich volunteers. Please join us at 8:30 a.m. outside of the Community Center on the blacktop for some short presentations by the students and then hang out to mingle and snack on coffee, tea, and pastries. If you will be joining us, please take the time to RSVP so we are sure to set up enough chairs and have plenty of food. Of course, we will have extra if you need to decide at the last minute! We know how busy everyone is this time of year.

CAASPP Testing – We have mostly finished the state CAASPP testing for 3rd and 4th grade students. There are just a few students who are finishing their make-up sessions today and tomorrow. Students took four tests, two in Language Arts and two in Math. The results of this assessment will be made available in Aeries later this summer.

Response to the Tragedy in Texas – When we learned about the tragedy in Texas, Raquel Rose quickly sent out a letter to all staff with a multitude of resources that would help us talk to our students if they asked about the incident. The Bacich staff has also been sharing resources and talking points with each other that are more specific to elementary-aged students. In our kinder through second grade classes, we have purposefully not had class discussions about the tragedy, as most students this age have been thankfully sheltered from the information. Some third and fourth grade students have brought it up and so teachers briefly addressed their questions and provided reassurance of their safety here at Bacich. We are referring the students back to their parents if they want to discuss the incident further, and if any students are visibly shaken or fearful at school, we will refer them to our counselor, Andrea Cashman. For more information and resources for your family, please refer to the Parent Square post sent by Raquel Rose on May 25. Thank you for your partnership as we navigate dealing with this tragic incident.

School Supplies for Next Year - We now have the link to the Bacich school supply site where you can order school supplies for the fall to be delivered to your child’s classroom. This is a KSPTA fundraiser and is not required, but very convenient! Here is the flier for more information.

Take care,
