Bacich Bears News

Maria Martin

Dear Bacich Community,

What a fantastic week we just had! The 2023 Bacich Talent Show was a huge success. Our third and fourth grade participants were incredibly inspiring and quite talented. The third grade chorus concert was fantastic. The students were smiling, singing, and dancing. What a fun show to get to watch. Thank you to our students for their hard work and dedication. Thanks also to our parent community for supporting our enrichment programs.

2023 Field Trips

Bacich field trips are back in full swing! This year, the KIK foundation has volunteered to support field trips by covering some of the costs associated with some of these special experiential learning opportunities. We are grateful for this support, especially since we were unable to go on field trips during the COVID-19 pandemic and many of our students have never been on a school-sponsored trip. Some of our field trips do not have a cost associated with them, but we rely on and appreciate parent chaperones and drivers who help make these special days possible.

Please read on to learn about some of the special field trips happening this month!

First Grade Creekside Marsh Project-Based Learning Unit

Several years ago, two Bacich teachers created and developed a first grade science unit that utilizes the Creekside Marsh as the “classroom” to learn about animal and plant life. The “Creekside Marsh Unit” includes walking field trips to the marsh to learn about the plants and animals that live and thrive in the marsh. These walking field trips began this past week and will continue throughout the duration of the unit.

In addition to the walking field trips, WildCare will be visiting first grade classrooms to teach students more about the plants and animals that live in the marsh. This WildCare visit is fully funded by KIK!

Second Grade - Marin Headlands Field Trip

Our second graders visited the Marin Headlands this past week. The current second grade science unit is all about our changing earth. During this field trip, second grade students became geologists who were exploring the landforms present in the Marin Headlands that have been shaped over time. They lucked out on a beautiful sunny and warm day to participate in this real-life experience.

Second Grade - Farm Day

Second graders are also going to travel to the Marin County Farmers Market on “Farm Day.” This trip connects to their social studies unit on producers and consumers. KIK has supported this trip by providing each student with some spending money so that they can become consumers and shop at the market.

Fourth Grade - Marin Symphony

Bacich fourth graders will join fourth graders from all over Marin County when they attend the Marin Symphony day on March 20. Students will experience the thrill of a live orchestral performance!

All of our Bacich Bears are scheduled to participate in a field trip experiential learning opportunity prior to the end of the school year. Some grades have already been on a field trip earlier this year. The above list is meant to highlight some of the special opportunities happening during the month of March!

With gratitude,

Bacich Highlights

Baseball Field Construction

Ross Valley Little League (RVLL), is funding and managing an improvement project of the majors' baseball field at the northwest corner of the Bacich field. The project includes the construction of two new enclosed dugouts with entry gates. The project also includes increasing the height of the baseball fence to prevent foul balls from being hit onto Sir Francis Drake Blvd. A new concrete pad for the bleachers and shed will be installed. RVLL has plans for similar improvements to the minors' field (the field closest to the main parking lot). The timing of the minors' project has not been finalized. Over the February mid-winter break (February 20 -24), the baseball field grass will be replaced.

All of the work is being completed by licensed and insured contractors and all workers have received clearance to work on-site during the school day. We do not anticipate much of an impact on our students during the course of this project. The route of the track has been slightly altered due to the temporary construction fencing. All construction vehicle traffic will occur outside of the school day. The project will be completed by March 10 at the latest, with RVLL opening day taking place on March 11.

These improvements, especially the new grass, will benefit all of our students. We appreciate the partnership with Ross Valley Little League and all they provide for our community.
