Dear Kent Middle School Families,

March is a busy and exciting time at Kent, as we anticipate many engaging academic and celebratory activities and events for our students and our community. From the Readathon next week, our Open House on March 30, and Lion King performances in early April, Kent is alive with the hustle and bustle of teaching, learning, and community! Please see the notes below for timely topics this week!

MAP Growth Results - February 2023 MAP Growth assessment results in reading and mathematics are available for student and family review in the Aeries Family Portal. We administer the MAP Growth as a formative assessment to track student progress in reading and mathematics in the fall and in winter of each school year. Teachers utilize the results to monitor academic trends, to plan for instruction, and to identify additional student supports. We invite you to review your child’s MAP Growth score report with your child to track progress, and to identify areas of strength and areas for growth. To access your child’s February 2023 MAP Growth assessment results login to the Aeries Family Portal, click "Student Info," click "Student Documents," then click "MAP Test Results Winter 2023." For more comprehensive instructions on how to access and interpret your child’s MAP Growth assessment results, please review the November 14, 2022 Kent newsletter, linked here.

Scholastic Book Fair and Kent Readathon - This Monday through Thursday, March 13-16, we host our first-ever Scholastic Book Fair in the newly refreshed Kent Middle School Library! The fair will be open before school, at recess and at lunch, and after school on Wednesday. The fair features affordable books and school supplies that kids can shop for using credit cards, Apple Pay, cash, or the convenient Ewallet feature! Check out the Kent Scholastic Book Fair website for more information! Perhaps you could visit the book fair to get prepared for the Kent Readathon next week! Every student should plan to have a great book for school each day next week, where we will stop what we’re doing and READ in support of our KSPTA, and our love of literacy and reading!

Principal’s Coffee - Please join superintendent Raquel Rose, assistant principal Wendy Holmes, and me for our March Principal Coffee this Friday, March 17 from 8:45 to 10 a.m. in the Kent Library. The focus of this month’s Principal Coffee will be on goal setting for our school and our school district. We will review the goals set for 2022-2023 by our School Site Council in our school’s Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA), as well as the district’s goals for this year in the current Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). A part of this session will include soliciting feedback regarding areas of focus as we plan for the 2023-2024 school year. Please plan to join us for a warm cup of coffee and a productive conversation on Friday morning at Kent!

Friday marks the end of the second trimester of school! Let’s finish this trimester strong, Falcons!

Readathon - We are thrilled to announce our upcoming KSPTA Readathon, and the many ways we will be celebrating reading and our PTA at Kent! During the week of March 20th, we will run a special schedule that supports daily reading for pleasure for all students and staff. On Wednesday, March 22 we welcome world-renowned author Matt de la Pena for two author visits at our school. Many Kent Falcons have read his books, and many participated in reading challenges last month and this month to read even more! Our Readathon schedule will include daily activities in the library including bookmark designing, book trivia, book chats, trivia Kahoot, and much much more! Thank you for your participation in the Kent Readathon and our KSPTA through your donation through 99Pledges. More information about how to get involved can be found on the Kentfield Schools Readathon Website. Much appreciation goes to our KSPTA for organizing this fun week of reading at our school!
