Bacich Bears News

Maria Martin

Dear Bacich Community,

This week our third and fourth graders start CAASPP testing. Taking this summative assessment marks the beginning of the end of the school year. While we have more learning and growth to do, there is limited time left in the school year. We hope you will continue to support your students in their learning and know that we continue to work with students to meet established learning goals and grade level expectations.

Bacich Fourth Grade Gold Country Overnight Trip

I am thrilled to report that our fourth graders had a successful trip to the Gold Country! It was the first overnight trip for Bacich students since the start of the Covid Pandemic. It was wonderful for students to spend two days engaged in outdoor activities together. Panning for gold was a huge hit and students came back home with flakes of gold and other gems tucked safely inside their handmade gold pokes. Students also made a spinning toy, and completed a tin smithing project.

The pasta dinner was well received and most students lined up for second helpings before having ice cream for dessert! While settling down for sleep was a challenge for some cabin groups, students were overall respectful of behavior and safety expectations for the duration of the trip. Thank you again to the fourth grade team for planning and leading the trip. And thank you to KIK for partnering with fourth grade parents and guardians to support the trip financially. Here are some photos from the Gold Country:

Kindergarten Concert

We will host our Kindergarten families for the Kindergarten concert on Thursday morning at 8:30 in the Community Center. Families are in for an incredibly special performance. The students will also perform for the student body on Friday morning. Please note that we can not accommodate additional guests on Friday morning due to capacity limitations in the Community Center.

Bon Air Community Spring Fair

Some of our fourth grade students performed several songs to kick-start the Bon Air Shopping Center Spring Fair this past Saturday. This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to represent our school at a community event. They did a fantastic job. Thank you to Becky Poon for coordinating and leading this performance. There was a large crowd which included fourth grade families and community members who enjoyed the performance. Thank you also to Medhanie Gebremichael, Ramiro Alvitez, and Francisco Perez for setting up the equipment for this special performance.

I hope you enjoy the week ahead!

Sincerely,

Maria Martin

Wait Until 8th Pledge

The KSPTA is sponsoring the Wait Until 8th Pledge. This initiative supports waiting until children are in 8th grade to provide access to a smartphone. The Wait Until 8th organization lists five top reasons to postpone access to a smartphone:

  1. Smartphones are changing childhood
  2. They are distracting and addictive
  3. Smartphones expose your child to inappropriate content
  4. They increase the risk of anxiety and depression
  5. Cyberbullying is an important concern

There are many devices that parents can use to be able to get in touch with their children, other than a smartphone. The Wait Until 8th website has additional information for parents. The KSPTA has identified a parent class champion at each grade level who is available to answer questions you may have. Please refer to this document for more information about the KSPTA Wait Until 8th campaign. I encourage you to consider taking this pledge!

Draft School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) - Bacich 2023-2024

The Bacich School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) for the 2023-24 school year is a comprehensive document that provides details about the school’s planned actions to support student outcomes and overall performance. The goals and actions in the SPSA connect to the Kentfield School District’s Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), which lays out goals for the entire District. The Bacich SPSA for 2023-2024 contains four goals and specific action steps to achieve the goals. We would like to solicit your feedback on this important plan. Please take a few minutes to review the DRAFT SPSA and provide feedback using this Google form.
