Dear Kentfield School Community,

MESSAGE #2 at 3:33 p.m.

At this time the Office of Emergency Services has advised that ten (10) residents in Kentfield and various residents in the unincorporated area of Marin may experience a PSPS shutdown between 6-8:00 p.m. this evening, October 25th.

At this time both KSD schools are expected to have power and public schools operating in-person or remotely have not been advised to close. KSD will plan to be in session, and continue to monitor the situation and update the community as new information is received.  In preparation for families that experience a shutdown and are unable to access Distance Learning please contact your site administrators as they are prepared to provide guidance on how to support your student in accessing their learning for the day.

Below are resources to help our community continue to monitor the planned power outages for Marin County.

Regarding power outages in the Kentfield School District when Distance Learning:

  • If there is a confirmed power shutdown scheduled for a subsequent school day at one or both schools, the District will close both schools and communicate the closures as soon as possible.
  • If power is turned off for either school site while school is in Distance Learning, instruction will conclude for the remainder of the academic day.
  • If power is restored prior to 5:00 a.m. on a school day when a closure has been announced the day before, the District will open the schools and communicate that news as soon as possible.
  • All information related to school closures and reopening will be posted to our District and school websites, and will be communicated through ParentSquare and direct feed.
  • If one school is scheduled not to have power, both schools will be closed.
  • If school is in session, but a KSD family has a PSPS power outage please contact your site administrator for guidance regarding your child's learning for the day.

MESSAGE #1 at 10:33 a.m.

A red flag warning has been issued by the National Weather Service from Sunday, October 25 at 11:00 a.m. through Tuesday October 27 at 5:00 a.m. Much of our region, including Marin is now in a “PSPS Watch” status by PG&E. This announcement from PG&E provides a brief overview of what to expect and how to prepare.

Although there are anticipated outages in Kentfield, all district facilities are scheduled to have power, so we will plan for school to be in session. The district will continue to monitor this situation and update the community as new information is received. Please see below description of how the district will address notifications related to power shutoffs for KSD schools.
