Funding Renewal
Kentfield School District (KSD) serves local students in pre kindergarten through 8th grade at two award-winning schools—Bacich Elementary and Kent Middle School. KSD is known for highly qualified, dedicated teachers, innovative instruction, and strong parent and community involvement, which prepares our students for success in high school, college and beyond.
Locally Controlled School Funding Set to Expire
Since 1987 KSD has relied upon locally controlled funding through a voter-approved parcel tax—representing 25% of KSD’s budget. Unless renewed by a two-thirds vote in a local election, this funding is set to expire. If this funding expires, it will result in extensive layoffs for teachers and school staff, cuts to academic programs and increases in class sizes.
Local Funding Renewal Measure to Protect Quality Education
To preserve and protect high-quality education in our schools, KSD is considering placing a measure on the June 2026 ballot to renew expiring school funding. While final decisions are under consideration, the proposed measure would likely continue the current parcel tax with a modest increase of $148 per parcel for ten years.
Renewed Funding Would Allow KSD to:
- Maintain quality core academic programs in math, science, reading, writing, and technology
- Attract and retain highly qualified teachers and staff
- Prevent class size increases to preserve individual attention and strong student outcomes
Fiscal Accountability and Local Control
- All funds would stay here to support local students—no funds can be taken by the State or federal government.
- Independent oversight and annual audits would ensure funds continue to be spent as promised.
- Senior citizen homeowners age 65+ would continue to be eligible for an exemption.
