BACICH ART ENRICHMENT

Thanks to Ms. Libby’s wonderful instruction, TK through 4th grade artists have been engrossed in the Amate Bark painting tradition. This tradition originates from San Pablito, a small mountain village in Mexico, where this beautiful craft is still taught today.

Students sketched Mexican and Mayan inspired designs, birds, floral motifs and village scenes.

To simulate the process of this beautiful hand made amate paper, and to create a bark-like texture, students crumpled their upcycled brown paper bags and burnished the paper with flat, smooth rocks. Students used paint pens specially designed to achieve the gorgeous vibrant, saturated colors on the bark paintings. The finished art pieces are stunning!

Thanks to our KIK Donors, Art at Bacich is still a crucial part of our students' creative, hands-on education.

KENT ART ENRICHMENT

Ms. Rubinstein has been working with 5th graders on two-dimensional artworks! Students created collages, tempera and watercolor paintings, foam stamp creation, and weaving. 2D explorations are to follow.

7th and 8th grade students are practicing Question Formulation Technique, Visual Thinking Strategies, found poetry, and gelli printing before getting into clay pieces this week, in addition to drawing and painting explorations,

All grades were inspired by living artists including Lynda Barry, Grant Haffner, Laila Ali, and Austin Kleon.

Thank you KIK Donors! Students continue to develop creative confidence, visual literacy and self-esteem through art!
