Bacich Bears News

Maria Martin

Dear Bacich Families,

It is hard to believe that we are in the middle of February and that our mid-winter break is next week. Some Bacich February highlights include:

Black History Month

Did you know that we have a Social Justice Curriculum Committee that meets regularly to develop and improve our social justice curriculum across all grade levels? Marjorie Bukowski, one of our fourth-grade teachers, is the chair of the Social Justice Committee this year. As part of their great work, the committee provides resources and lessons for teachers to use during Black History Month. This year, the focus of our Black History Month lessons is on the innovation and creativity that came (and continues to come) out of and in spite of the many struggles experienced by African Americans throughout U.S. history.

100th Day of School Assembly

Did you know that we have three teachers who plan In-Motion and Character Assemblies? Lindsay Zerzan, Andrea Livengood, and Claire Adams have taken on the leadership of our weekly assemblies. This week they organized an assembly to celebrate the 100th day of school. A few students from each class presented a highlight of the school year thus far. We got to hear 100 highlights, including, first-day jitters, mystery share, buddies, making new friends, Idea Studio, learning snap words, and class jobs. You can see that our Bacich Bears love learning in a vibrant and engaging school community.

Valentine Card Making in the Library

We are so fortunate to have the support and partnership of the Kentfield Schools Parent Teacher Association (KSPTA)! Vicki Song, who is the KSPTA Vice President of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, organized a valentine-making station in the library during lunch. Students could come in and make a valentine card for each of their classmates in anticipation of class Valentine’s Day parties. Thank you to all of the volunteers who donated time and materials to make this possible!

Then and Now

Thank you to the second-grade teaching team for making the “Then and Now” celebration a huge success. Our guests were treated to a mini concert in the Community Center followed by classroom visits. Thank you also to the Bacich music teacher, Becky Poon, for organizing and preparing the students for the mini concert.

I hope you enjoy a wonderful week and mid-winter break!

Warmly,

Maria Martin

Bacich Highlights

Baseball Field Construction

Ross Valley Little League (RVLL), is funding and managing an improvement project of the majors' baseball field at the northwest corner of the Bacich field. The project includes the construction of two new enclosed dugouts with entry gates. The project also includes increasing the height of the baseball fence to prevent foul balls from being hit onto Sir Francis Drake Blvd. A new concrete pad for the bleachers and shed will be installed. RVLL has plans for similar improvements to the minors' field (the field closest to the main parking lot). The timing of the minors' project has not been finalized. Over the February mid-winter break (February 20 -24), the baseball field grass will be replaced.

All of the work is being completed by licensed and insured contractors and all workers have received clearance to work on-site during the school day. We do not anticipate much of an impact on our students during the course of this project. The route of the track has been slightly altered due to the temporary construction fencing. All construction vehicle traffic will occur outside of the school day. The project will be completed by March 10 at the latest, with RVLL opening day taking place on March 11.

These improvements, especially the new grass, will benefit all of our students. We appreciate the partnership with Ross Valley Little League and all they provide for our community.

Youth Truth Survey

In addition to the family Youth Truth survey, our 3rd and 4th grade students will be engaging in their own survey this week. This survey allows us to hear directly from our students on how they are experiencing school. The feedback this data provides can be used toward strategic planning, monitoring our curriculum, technology, and learning environment, as well as how we can plan for future professional development.
